Netflix, Inc. is an American streaming entertainment service company. It provides subscription services for the streaming of movies and television series on demand, on TVs, computers, tablets, and other Internet-connected devices. It also produces original programming. Netflix was conceived in 1997 by current CEO Reed Hastings, and Marc Randolph. The firm originated as a DVD-rental service before becoming a mail order service. In 2007, it rolled out its video streaming service, and it has 209 million subscribers worldwide in 2021.

The company is most known for its large media library of movies and television series available on demand. It also hosts original, in-house productions which make up 40% of its media library, and it plays a prominent role in independent film distribution. Nearly half of Netflix, Inc.'s revenue is generated in North America, its largest market. The company's second largest market is EMEA which accounts for 31% of its revenue, followed by Latin America at 12.5%, and Asia Pacific (excluding mainland China due to local restrictions) at 9.5%.

Netflix, Inc. is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. In 2021, it has over 9,400 employees and 14 office locations across 10 countries spanning North America, Europe, and Asia.

Netflix, Inc. went public on the NASDAQ exchange in May 2002, trading under the ticker 'NFLX'. As of 2021, the company has a market cap of US$294.5 billion. The company is part of ‘FAANG’, an acronym used in finance technology that refers to the stocks of the Big Five companies in the US information technology industry: Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. Institutional investors hold a majority ownership of Netflix, controlling 82.4% of its outstanding shares. These include Vanguard, Capital Research and Management, BlackRock, and Fidelity.
