The most bought and sold stocks and ETFs last week.
The big story that kickstarted the return to trading for many last week was the dramatic snatching of Venezuelan president Maduro.
The big movers were stocks with possible exposure to a rekindling of the country’s oil industry, and we saw Chevron shoot up the most traded table into the top ten - from position number 73 as an average of the last 3 months. We also registered unusually strong interest in Exxon Mobil, Halliburton and SLB last week from clients.
Last week also saw Donald Trump make claims on Greenland and the heightened geopolitical risk environment also supported defence stocks and miners as precious metals rallied on haven flows. We also looked at Trump's announcement to boost defence spending by 50% next year as having an impact on the sector.
And in the UK Glencore was the most actively traded stock as it looks like clients sold into strength as shares of the mining and commodity group rallied sharply on confirmation it is pursuing merger talks with Rio Tinto.
Nevertheless, big tech stocks continued to dominate as clients remain dialled into the AI trade, though Nvidia was notable for being sold more than bought by clients.
Here’s a list of our top 30 most traded stocks of the last week with the percentage of buys.
