In the past 227 years of recorded market prices, the world has witnessed a mere six commodity bull markets. The Saxo Strats team fully expects 2021 to mark the beginning of the seventh. A commodity bull market is part and parcel of a new secular inflationary regime, a development few investors alive recall during their professional careers, as the last one ended about forty years ago. Importantly, this could mark a jarring shift away from the present euphoria in asset markets fueled by very negative real rates and the most relaxed monetary policy in history.

Nowhere has the recent vaccine news from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna had a bigger positive impact than on the energy sector. The potential for vaccines being rolled out in the new year, thereby driving a recovery in global fuel demand, was received very positively by the market. Adding to this the so called rotation out of momentum into more traditional value stocks - such as energy - the foundation for renewed investor interest has emerged. But with that there has also been a divergence in the performance between supply/demand dependent crude oil and forward looking equities on energy companies.
In this webinar we will discuss:
- The supply & demand backdrop for Energy
- Backwardation in the futures market and what this means
- The impact on oil demand from more flexible work hours and the transition to electric vehicles
- If the decade long underperformance of the Energy sector may be coming to an end
- Outlook and potential investment opportunities for 2021
The presentation will last approximately 1hr including Q&A.

Inflation is often associated with emerging economies or catastrophic events. Not entirely surprising, given the last time the UK had significant inflation was during the 1970-80s.
However when as much liquidity is pumped into the global economy as we see now, there are two natural results: asset bubbles, and inflationary pressure.
We’re all more familiar with asset bubbles, such as the DotCom and U.S. real estate bubbles. But with inflation on the rise now is the time to remind ourselves how it can impact us, and how to prepare.
Join Saxo’s world-renowned Chief Economist Steen Jakobsen, and CEO of Saxo Markets UK, Charles White-Thomson, for this lunchtime webinar. They will reveal why inflation is on the rise across major economies, what an inflationary environment means for markets, and how to combat inflationary pressure on your investments.
The webinar will end with a Q&A session for a rare opportunity to put questions to Steen and Charlie.
Worried about rising uncertainty in the markets from Covid-19 and the upcoming US election?
