The most bought and sold stocks and ETFs last week.
Last week witnessed huge swings in volatility as President Trump kicked off the World Economic Forum with threats to take over Greenland but ended with a framework deal over Arctic security that soothed investor jitters. Gold and silver kept up their ascents and this was reflected in strong client interest in a number of ETFs offering exposure to precious metals.
Clients sold a couple of popular physical silver ETCs, apparently envisaging a top in the market after its stratospheric rally, but were net buyers of silver miners. Ole look at silver today.
Tech earnings are the big focus this week with the first of the Mag 7 set to report and clients were actively trading some of the largest names in the space last week – old favourites such as Microsoft, Nvidia and Meta.
Netflix was bought on weakness after margin guidance missed expectations while Intel attracted buyers after shares fell about 17% in one day after issued lacklustre forecasts and warned of a supply shortage.
We also registered strong diversification activity. Other assets attracting notable interest included the VanEck Semiconductor UCITS ETFs, with a strong 96% net buy trades; the VanEck Defense UCITS ETF with 90% net buys and the Vanguard FTSE 100 UCITS ETF (89% net buy).
