Investor Trends: Most bought and sold shares & ETFs last week
The most bought and sold stocks last week.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq notched back-to-back weekly declines as renewed selling pressure hurt the AI complex.
But clients were keen to buy in on weakness with several of the neocloud stocks attracting interest, while the top three names remained Nvidia, SpaceX and Micron.
Of these SpaceX stood out with 78% net buys after it reported stronger-than-expected Q3 earnings – results which answered some near-term questions about monetisation of its AI spending. CEO Elon Musk talked up a possible merger with Tesla, which reported more disappointing quarterly earnings last week. 45% of trades in Tesla last week were buys.
Meta also reported earnings which though broadly positive underscored the huge financing requirements for the AI buildout. Shares declined but clients bought in on the weakness with 69% buys. This morning Meta says it could issue up to $60bn of Class C shares to fund its AI buildout with Nvidia and Broadcom said to be keen to invest.
Among neoclouds CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN attracted strong demand from clients as the stocks sold off sharply.
Among UK names Rolls-Royce was noteworthy for attracting a lot more interest than the previous week to join the 5 most actively traded shares last week, while Barclays makes the top 20 after it reported earnings to mixed response.
Four ETFs make the list this week as clients continued to put money to work with diversified funds.
