Asia equities are broadly higher and sweeping aside the mounting tensions between the US and China, instead focusing on the perceived positives which have driven risk assets in recent weeks. Namely reopening economies, slowing COVID-19 case growth and expanding central bank balance sheets. Trading may be light this Monday with holidays in U.S., U.K. and Singapore.
Market Quick Take - May 20, 2020
US equity markets probed new highs for the cycle yesterday, but the move was rejected in late trading yesterday, though the action overnight has seen what seems the inevitable bounce. Today sees the release of the latest FOMC meeting minutes, though these are not hotly anticipated. Instead, we are focusing on the key technical resistance levels for equities and support levels for the US dollar.
Market Quick Take - May 18, 2020
The markets are off to a strong start this week, with US futures up overnight in the wake of a TV interview with US Fed Chair Powell, in which he expressed the confidence that the Fed is far from running out of ammunition to support the economy. Silver and gold were sharply higher overnight, as well as we look at whether increasing signs of US-China tensions could spoil the cheer in the week ahead.
