- US Trade Deficit: The trade deficit widened to $70.3 billion in December 2025, exceeding forecasts of $55.5 billion. Exports declined by 1.7% while imports rose 3.6%, indicating that recent US tariffs have not provided immediate relief.
- Equities: US stocks slipped, with the S&P 500 down 0.3%, the Nasdaq falling 0.4%, and the Dow declining 0.6%. Energy stocks rose on Iran-related tensions and Trump's comments, while banks came under pressure due to higher yields. Blue Owl sold $1.4 billion in assets, returning proceeds to investors, but the company's shares dropped 5.9% for the day, marking a steep decline over the past year.
