Résumé: Geneva and US Yields in Focus
Good morning and a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Fire Horse
Today, Geneva is the center of attention, with talks between the US and Iran on one hand and Russia and Ukraine on the other. Both positive and negative developments have the potential to significantly shift market sentiment.
Markets are trading risk-off, with indexes lower by approximately 0.5% and the USD stronger. EURUSD is at 1.1840, GBPUSD at 1.3590, and USDJPY at 152.90. Precious metals are lower, with gold at 4,905 and silver at 74.80.
Noteworthy is the US 10-year yield trading spot on support at 4.02. A hold here would keep us in the wedge that has been maintained since September 2025; a break lower would open the move toward 3.5%.
BHP Group reported a stronger-than-expected half-year underlying profit driven by copper.
Indian conglomerate Adani Group announced it would commit USD 100 billion to renewable energy-powered independent AI datacenters by 2035.
German inflation data and the ZEW Index are worth keeping an eye on. Overall, sentiment in the US will be more important after the extended weekend. As mentioned, watch for any developments in Geneva.
Trade safely.!!
