FAQs

CHESS (Clearing House Electronic Sub-register) is the ASX’s share transaction and settlement system.

It issues an easy-to-read statement to shareholders, detailing all their ASX holdings, providing investors with a secure way to hold equities in their own name.

CHESS-sponsored share trading offers numerous advantages:

  • Full portability of securities, without potential tax implications
  • All your ASX holdings are consolidated under one Holder Identification Number (HIN)
  • Securities can be traded whenever markets are open

A unique Holder Identification Number (HIN) is allocated to anyone with CHESS-sponsored shares. With a HIN, rather than holding physical share certificates, all your holdings are recorded in a secure database.

A custodian is a financial institution that holds customers' securities for safekeeping. Under custodian share trading, shares purchased are held by Saxo’s custodian bank in a direct capacity. The customers are the ultimate beneficial owners of shares purchased.

We execute stock orders using smart order routing (SOR) technology, which sources liquidity from multiple venues, including regulated exchanges and MTFs, to optimise execution rates and fill ratios.

All the equities we offer trade on actual market data from global stock exchanges. That means you’ll need to subscribe to the individual exchange to access and trade on live prices.
